Email Chose Me

After a few years working in generalized, marketing "specialist" type of roles; it became apparent to me that I had a particular passion for email. The email world chose, and I drew the lucky card.

Why? I think its because email tapped into my former life as a Math major. In high school and in college, Math was always one of my favorite subjects. It was solving puzzles and getting to an actual answer. It was logical. I did not get a degree in Math (because what would I do with that?), but I found ways in which to bring logic into Marketing. Email provided a wealth of opportunity to show actual numbers. Indisputable results. Statistical significance. Marketing didn't need to spend hours debating which color scheme or copy would perform better; we could test different theories with minimal investment and find an answer.

For over 11 years, I exercised my email skills for various different brands as an in-house expert. I managed campaign calendars, promotion schedules, but also the marketing technology that enabled our ability to report on email's performance. In those 11 years, I worked for 4 or 5 different companies, and towards the end of my tenure at each - I was always left wondering: 'Why isn't this working?'. I was miserable! Was it me? Was it the people I was working with? Was it email? Was it the type of company or industry I was in? Would a different platform be better? Would a better job title make me happy?

So, in 2018, I began working with my own career coach to try to sus out answers to those questions. I didn't necessarily want to start all over in a new career (with an entry level salary) but I also knew I could not continue working as I had been for the last decade. I started this site in the hopes of bringing some of the same skills that I learned to the larger email community. If my story resonates with you, reach out and lets chat!
